It’s called the W.O.W. and it’s a concept vehicle designed “from the viewpoint of a dog” claims Honda designer Katsuhito Nakmura. W.O.W. stands for “wonderful openhearted wagon and was exhibited in Tokyo last year to illustrate how the Japanese car maker is working to automobiles designed for different lifestyles.

The car allows owners to interact with their dogs while driving by providing a kind of galley, a special crate in the glove compartment located in the middle of the dashboard. Another crate is provided behind the front seats and for larger dogs, a special seat belt tethered to the floor allows one to buckle up your dog for safety.

Other features of the vehicle include hard tile-like flooring for easy cleaning with wide opening doors for easy entry and exit. Honda has already made great strides with the Element wherby nearly the whole interior is washable and scratch resistent with rubber flooring that can be hosed down and wiped dry as well waterproof seat fabric.

Move over people, the dog’s have to watch their shows too! There is new evidence that dogs and cats alike watch television, many of which actually enjoy it. MSNBC writes: “It’s 10 p.m. in Flemington, N.J., and like clockwork, tabby cats Ralph and Riley climb onto their favorite chair in front of the television and settle down to watch “Animal Cops” on the cable channel Animal Planet. In Denver, Colo., a Welsh corgi named Ruby is watching the same show [while] halfway around the world in Cape Town, South Africa, a Jack Russell terrier named Anja won’t settle down and eat her chicken dinner until Judge Judy takes to her courtroom bench.”

A study by the Iam’s company found that at least 50% of dogs show interest in television prompting Preston Rhinelander to suggest their might be a new marketable audience, “We should start programming right now so that in 20 years they could become regular viewers.”

It’s not all that far fetched either, Animal Planet will announce new programming geared specifically to animals and many doggy daycares and overnight kennels already run cable television into the dogs rooms.

Dave Barry from the Miami Herald jokingly believes that in order for dogs to truly enjoy the experience of television, the tv should produce some odors to capture the strongest sensory organs.”I don’t see why we couldn’t develop a TV that, in addition to picture and sound, emitted smells through a hole at the bottom of the set. That way, if you’re watching, say, a police drama, and there’s a shootout, and one of the good guys is lying on the sidewalk, critically wounded, whispering his last, deeply touching words to his partner, your dog could go to the hole and find out how the sidewalk smelled.”

One thing we can be sure of, dogs are a lot like us when it comes to television, they don’t like commercials either! It disrupts their train of thought and should be considered bad ettiquete.
